Gotham Girls Roller Derby

Intern L Bleeding: Derby World's Greatest Intern

August 14, 2009

Intern L. Bleeding Intern L. Bleeding joined our league in 2007 and quickly proved how indispensable she is. A longtime fan of roller derby, she applied for our internship position hoping to put her training and experience in the entertainment industry to use and learn more about producing events in New York City.

Intern L. started her work with the Gotham Girls by stuffing envelopes, putting together sponsorship packets, and completing other routine—but essential--administrative tasks. (She has always said yes to jobs no one else in the league was willing or able to complete.) But her input on bout production issues quickly became crucial, and she gradually took over such vital responsibilities as compiling bout attendance, printing information packets for bout managers, taking charge of our raffle, and much more.

Now a regular fixture at the door on bout days, she not only acts as our ticket manager and bout manager assistant (often providing answers to questions few others in the league can field), she also plays an active role on the Web Committee, Public Relations Committee, Sponsorship Committee, and Marketing Committee. And of course, she always makes sure to grab a front row seat once the introductions begin to cheer on her league mates as they compete on the track.

While Intern L. claims not to have a favorite Gotham Girls home team (she loves us all, she says), she is a fixture on the national tournament scene. Not only does she travel to cheer for her favorite All-Star team, she can also be found behind the merch booth and at the after party celebrating Gotham’s latest win.

Gotham owes so much of our success on the track and off to dedicated and passionate volunteers like Intern L. who go above and beyond helping us lay down our floor and sell Swedish Fish to become an essential part of our family. Intern L. makes running our league easier and more fun for all of us. Simply put, she is the derby world’s best intern. And no, you can’t have her.

Epilogue: InternL departed for the sunny state of California following the 2009 season.  Best of luck, InternL -- GGRD's loss is the Golden State's gain!
