Gotham Girls Roller Derby

Gotham Girls Invade Alaska

September 08, 2009

Five Gotham Girls skaters and two Gotham referees spent their Labor Day weekends in Anchorage, Alaska conducting a three-day boot camp hosted by the Rage City Rollergirls

Over forty skaters from Anchorage and from the Fairbanks Rollergirls spent four hours a day working with the Gotham Girls to learn skating basics, blocking and jamming skills, teamwork exercises, and pack communication, concluding with a two hour 'focused scrimmage.'

The Alaskan referees reviewed the latest WFTDA ruleset, WFTDA 'best practices,' and bout footage to help bring derby in the 49th state up to speed.

After the skating was done, the Gotham Girls checked out the rides and attractions of the Alaskan State Fair, including the World's Largest Cabbage!

Thank you to our Alaskan hosts for being such great hosts and great students!
