Gotham Girls Roller Derby

All-Stars victorious; advance to East Region semi-finals

September 11, 2009

The Gotham Girls All-Stars were victorious in their first-round matchup at the WFTDA East Regionals, the "Wicked Wheels of the East" Tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The summary below is taken from Justice Feelgood Marshall's writeup at Derby News Network.

---

(1E) Gotham 185, (6E) Providence 25 -- This matchup started as a low-scoring, heavily defensive affair through the first ten minutes, as Providence was surprisingly effective at forcing early jam calls from Gotham lead jammers. After 10 minutes, Gotham held a small 12-2 lead, but it wasn't long until Gotham took control of the bout. Em Dash, Suzy Hotrod and Bonnie Thunders were able to put down repeated 10 and 15-0 jams while Providence could only find 4 more points in the half. At the end of the first, the 2008 champs had established a practically insurmountable lead at 85-6.

While the crowd did go nuts for a 10-4 Providence jam on the back of Craisy Dukes that represented more points than Providence had scored in the first 40 minutes, it was 125-16 at that point and Providence only added 9 points the remainder of the half while Gotham's jammers continued to run circles around them, cruising to a 165 point victory.

The bout featured Em Dash's All-Star debut, as well as the 1,000th career interleague jamming point scored by Bonnie Thunders.  With this victory, Gotham extended its WFTDA-record winning streak to 17 consecutive bouts, dating back to September 2007.
