September 13, 2009

The Gotham Girls Roller Derby All-Stars' 2-year-old winning streak came to an end at the WFTDA's 2009 East Regional tournament, as the Philly Rollergirls finally toppled their oldest rivals in a riveting 90-89 victory decided in its very final moments.

Both Philly and Gotham advance to November's 2009 WFTDA Nationals, with Philly as the #1 seed from the East Region and Gotham as #2.  Congratulations to the Philly Roller Girls!

Many veteran derby observers felt that this bout eclipsed Gotham's June 2009 victory over Texas as "The Best Bout Ever," thanks to its dramatic turns, hard hits, focused strategy, and thrilling, fast-paced action.  With this young sport growing as quickly as it is, who knows when derby fans will see the NEXT "Best Bout Ever?"
