B. Zerk's athletic career began at an early age because she wanted to do everything her big brother did. She had to break through some gender barriers along the way - but eventually the boys stopped calling her names and started signing her baseball cap with hearts. Ultimately, she fell in love with soccer, earning All-American honors in high school and competing on a top 20 Division 1 team in college. After college, she moved to San Francisco and hung out at Yoga Tree with the hippies on the Haight. She then relocated to NYC and took up Kyokushin Karate in order to improve her street skills. Last year, she hung up her cleats and black belt in order to train for a Half Ironman triathlon because she thought she was done with contact sports. Until she found derby, of course.

B. Zerk has always been fascinated by people and places. She studied sociology in college and spent a semester learning Swahili in Kenya and Tanzania. She has since journeyed through Asia and Europe as well. After traveling across the US a few times, visiting 46 states along the way, she found her way to NYC where all the flavors of the world are at her doorstep. In order to pay for her adventures, she's spent the last decade as a marketing professional and currently helps businesses connect to customers through the internet.
