Care Bear Scare started fast pitch softball at the age of 8 and began playing for travel softball teams through the American Softball Association (ASA) at 12. She played for the Virginia Lady Eagles for a couple of years and transfered to the Hampton Roads Vipers, where she played the majority of her softball career. In addition to travel softball she also played little league for 9 years and high school varsity softball for 4 years. Positions included pitcher, second base, and occasionally center field. Other sports she played include cheerleading, field hockey, baseball, and tennis.

Care Bear Scare attended high school in Virginia Beach then moved to Richmond, VA to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002. While at VCU, she studied Music and Mass Communications and participated in education organizations. Scare moved to New York City in 2008 to get inspired and joined NYC teaching fellows in April 2009.
