Hela's previous sports experience includes four years of tae kwon do, a year of high school basketball, two years playing in her high school's annual girls' flag football game (team co-captain the second year), and pick-up kickball games in college. She likes roller derby best.

Hela lives in Brooklyn and works in publishing. When not skating or working, she writes and takes sneaky pictures of dogs.
