Sweet Sherry Pie grew up with soccer boots on her feet and has the callouses to prove it. Even though the early years involved not much more than shoving grass in her teammates' mouths on the sideline and ignoring the game altogether, she grew to love it to an obsessive point and has almost 20 years of experience on the pitch. Pie dappled in other sports (and dance) but quit them almost immediately for lack of excitement and legal contact. Throughout high school, she played on multiple teams including her school's varsity team, which went to the NJ state championship game all four years she was there... but tied three times. After a short break at age 21 to pursue rock climbing and other outdoor activities such as beer-kayaking, she stumbled upon a women's team at her sister's tournament who was down players. She borrowed some sneakers and a spare jersey and didn't stop until she fractured her kneecap 3 years later. After moving to NYC in 2004 a friend introduced her to Gotham Girls Roller Derby. Pie was so excited to finally find a fast paced sport where she could truly hit opponents without getting yellow carded or into physical altercations with the other team's sweeper. True story.
- Bio
Born and raised in the great state of New Jersey, Sweet Sherry Pie is a self-proclaimed diner food afficionado, Jersey Shore bum and Bruce Springsteen fanatic. Growing up as half athlete and half artist (which is totally unheard of in high school) she lettered in varsity soccer, track and field and marching band percussion. Eventually, her artistic half won out and Pie attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC earning degrees in Advertising Design and Packaging Design. She moved to NYC in 2004. Fated to never decide what to be when she grows up, Pie has wandered through many interesting careers ranging from automated lighting technician to carpenter to computer arts teacher at a day camp for disabled people. When she's not skating in circles, Pie enjoys playing in the great outdoors, adventures in culinary arts, learning to play musical instruments, arguing about the splendors of New Jersey and trying to convince her boyfriend, Al A. Mode, to adopt more pets.
